Diana Eng, the creative fashion designer who is best known for futuristic, technology based clothing is now in the process of creating a range of her own innovative accessories.
Eng does much of her design and technology research online. She first began integrating electronics and technology with her fashion designs after taking an “electronics for artists” course at the Rhode Island School of Design. It was there that she learned to think “innovatively and really outside of the box,” she says.
Among the work shown here are two pieces in her line of Smart Scarves. One that she has named the “Jack Frost” scarf, is made of a pale blue cotton material upon which snowflakes appear when the temperature falls below 65 degrees Fahrenheit. In fact, the lower the temperature, the larger the snowflakes appear.
The other is a scarf design that looks like a spiders web until you take a closer look. The scarf’s stitches follow the Fibonacci number pattern, a famous number sequence in which each number equals the sum of the two preceding numbers (0,1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21…).
